Renovations to St. John Chrysostom Malankara Orthodox Chapel

In 2006, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon (Metropolitan Tikhon) dedicated an area of St. Tikhon’s Seminary to be used as a Chapel for Malankara students. A place where Seminarians can come together and offer all the canonical hours of the Malankara Liturgical Tradition.

By the grace of God, we were successfully able to complete Phase 1 of the renovations to St. John Chrysostom Malankara Orthodox Chapel. Phase 1 consisted of re-painting the walls and ceiling, installing new crown moldings, replacing the carpet in the Chapel, and the installation of bookshelves.

We want to thank St. Tikhon’s Seminary, Archbishop Michael (Rector of St. Tikhon's Seminary), and Very Reverend Father Dr. John E. Parker III (Dean of St. Tikhon's Seminary) for allowing us to renovate our place of worship and giving us all the tools we needed to do so.

We want to thank Father Ignatius Gauvain (Director of Student Life) who guided us on our mission. Father Ignatius ensured that moldings were cut at the proper angle and properly nailed in.  He even helped to install the carpet.  Father Ignatius spent an entire day with the Malankara Students putting this chapel together. Thank you, Father, for sacrificing your time and talents to help build our place of worship.

Last but not least we would like to thank the generous Malankara Orthodox Alumni members who donated the money to allow this project to take place. Without the Malankara Alumni Members, this renovation would not have been possible.

We ask all to keep St. Tikhon’s Seminary, Archbishop Michael, Father John Parker, Father Ignatius, the Malankara Alumni Members, and all current Seminarians in your prayers.

What’s Next?    Phase 2!

Phase Two consists of acquiring new Icons and Altar Cloths.
