Dinner with Archbishop Michael

On Wednesday, October 7th, the dorm students were blessed with the opportunity to have dinner with His Eminence Archbishop Michael, Archbishop of New York and New Jersey. Along with his Diocesan responsibilities, His Eminence serves as the Rector, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and even teaches a variety of subjects at St. Tikhon's Orthodox Theological Seminary (STOTS).

His Eminence instructed our seminarians on a wide range of topics including his time in seminary, major moments from his ministry and serving Christ & His Church even in the most trying of pastoral situations. His Eminence also made it a point to check in on how things were going now that the semester is a little over a month old. He allowed for the Seminarians to share their concerns and assured them of his love and prayers. As a small token of appreciation, Vladika was presented with a new Panagia from the dorm students for his endless support of the student body.

Following the wonderful dinner, His Eminence visited with our Malankara students in St. John Chrysostom Orthodox Chapel.

It was a blessing to spend time with and learn from His Eminence. We thank Vladika for taking time out to visit with the Seminarians and pray for his ministry!

DID YOU KNOW?

'Vladika/Vladyka' is a Slavic title and address of bishops in the Eastern Orthodox Church. An equivalent to this would be our use of the title, 'Thirumeni' to address bishops in the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church (MOSC).

Shyno/Prayers before Sleep can be found on page 206 of the Shehimo: Book of Common Prayer, published by the Ministry of Liturgical Resource Development (LRD).

Panagia, is a title given to the Virgin Mary, the mother of God. The medallion worn by bishops bearing an icon of the All-Holy Theotokos is also referred to as a Panagia
